Tips & Things to Do in Helsinki in March
March in Helsinki blends the magic of late winter with the first hints of spring. Here are some highlights for your stay:
Relax like a Finn: Try a traditional sauna at Löyly (design sauna by the sea) or Allas Sea Pool, where you can dip into heated pools—or take a refreshing plunge into the Baltic Sea.
Enjoy the last snow: Weather permitting, locals head to parks for sledding or skiing. Helsinki Central Park even has maintained cross-country skiing tracks.
Dive into Finnish art, design & architecture: Explore the Design Museum, the Ateneum Art Museum, and Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art—then step outside to admire Helsinki’s mix of Jugendstil, modernist, and contemporary Nordic architecture.
Taste Nordic flavors: Try traditional dishes like salmon soup, Karelian pies, or reindeer—many restaurants in Helsinki bring a modern twist to local food. For something sweet, grab a cinnamon bun (“korvapuusti”) at a cozy café.
Walk & explore: Stroll around the Design District or along the seaside paths—March light is crisp and perfect for photography.
